She is the lead coordinator of Affirmations Advocacy & Activism, an innovative literacy based program that centers conversations around female empowerment and agency
Dr. Priscilla Solis Ybarra

Priscilla is Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of North Texas. Her book Writing the Goodlife: Mexican American Literature and the Environment (University of Arizona, 2016) was chosen for the 2017 Thomas J. Lyon Award in Western American Literary and Cultural Studies
Virginia Grise
Former Board Member
Virginia Grise is a recipient of the Yale Drama Award, Whiting Writers' Award, the Princess Grace Award in Theatre Directing, and the Playwrights’ Center’s Jerome Fellowship. Her published work includes Your Healing is Killing Me (Plays Inverse Press), blu (Yale University Press), The Panza Monologues co-written with Irma Mayorga (University of Texas Press) and an edited volume of Zapatista communiqués
Dee Lusk
Former Board Member
Dee is a retired public educator. He has worked on a number of projects involving animal care, rescue, rehabilitation and public awareness. Dee is a long-time advocate for resource conservation and sustainable energy policy. He is a performing artist, musician and song-writer in San Antonio, Texas and lends his time and talents to many important causes. Dee is a Founding Member of Terra Advocati.
Jess Mayes
Executive Director/ Regenerative Systems
Jess is a passionate environmental advocate who believes that practical education should support life and the environment, while also transcending socioeconomic, cultural, and geographic boundaries. He advises, designs, and implements regenerative systems by working with various clients, communities, private entities, and NPO’s throughout Texas, Mexico, and Central America
Nadia Gaona

Raised in South Bexar County, Nadia has always felt a close relationship with the land and environment around her. For the past 15 years, she has worked to bridge her love of nature with a passion for building community, serving as an organizer promoting home food production to increase community food security.
Larry Starkey
Former Board Member
Larry has been an educator for over thirty years. He currently works on social justice and environmental issues and serves as the treasurer for a community organization in San Antonio, Texas. Larry has been involved in several environmental and animal advocacy organizations for many years and regularly participates in projects that promote environmental awareness and animal welfare.
Janet Starkey
Former Board Member
Janet Starkey has been intimately involved in animal care and protection for the better part of her life. She is well versed in emergency procedures and has a background in veterinary technology. Besides being a caretaker and rescuer of animals in crisis, she is a strong advocate for the rights and welfare of all animals domestic, feral and endangered. Janet is a former educator, with certifications in mathematics, accounting and financial services.

Amelia has worn many professional hats over the years, but the unifying theme of her work has been commitment to supporting equitable, culturally-sustaining educational opportunities for both youth and adult learners. For the past several years, she has worked as a researcher and mentor within the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Department of Environmental Science and Ecology

Bryan is passionately committed to the regeneration of watersheds and ecosystems. His approach to projects, partnerships, and initiatives is characterized by a commitment to anchoring data-informed scientific findings and cutting-edge technology in a historical context.
Jessica Ramirez

Jessica currently works with several groups dedicated to feral animal communities in San Antonio, Texas. She has expertise in methods of controlling feline populations, educating citizens on the importance of domestic animal spay/neuter programs and providing for the health and care of wildlife as well as that of unwanted companion animals. Jessica is a Founding Member of Terra Advocati.
